Measuring Your Finger
How do you go about measuring your finger to find your ring size…?
Well there are many options for you to be able to find the size of your finger to make it easier when selecting a ring. Here are just a few to help you on your way….
There are many finger or Ring Size measures available to by on the internet, the most reliable is a tape design Ring Measure. This is similar to a cable tie design which locks together meaning you can then try it on as if it was a ring giving a more accurate size. One thing to note about this method is if the ring you are looking at buying is a chunky, wide design then you will normally need one to two sizes larger than the gauge as the wider the ring the larger the size needed.

You can download a sizing guide page, this takes the form of a sheet of paper that you can download and print. On the sheet will be many circles which represent each size of ring available. You can then try another ring on from a family member or friend or even one you already have, place it on the paper and then see which size it is. This method will need you to print the sheet and not hold it up to the sizes on the screen and will not always give you an accurate size, plus you may not be able to find a ring that fits you first.

Measuring your finger can be another way to find your ring size, not always as reliable as a piece of tape or paper won’t feel the same as a ring. Simply use a narrow tape measure or cut a narrow strip of paper. The fit it round the finger you want to measure and mark where it feels comfortable. Next lay the paper out flat to measure the length, ideally in mm. Then compare this to a Sizing Chart to find your correct size.

The best way to find your size is to be cheeky and pop into a jewellers shop to have your finger measured there. Good jewellers will be more than happy to measure your finger and if you follow the following tips while you are there you will get the most accurate sizing possible. Think about the ring you are buying, if it is going to be wide or narrow, if it is going to be a wider ring than 5mm remember to mention this as the jewellers should have two types of measure, a narrow band and a wider band. This is because a wider band will normally be a size larger. Think about how your finger & hand feels, if it is a burning hot day then you fingers will be larger so the ring needs to feel tighter on your finger, likewise if it is colder then it should feel a little looser.
F.A.Q’S
“Will the finger on one hand be the same size on the other hand?”
No normally the fingers on your writing hand will be larger than the other hand, often by at least one size.
“What is a court style ring?”
A court style ring means that the band is rounded on the inside and also the outside which will often mean you will need a larger size as this will pull on the finger more.
“Will the time of day or the weather make a difference to the size of my finger?”
Yes it will, when the weather is hotter your fingers will often swell meaning a ring would feel tighter, likewise if the weather is cold your ring would be looser. If you can measure your finger in the morning and at an average temperature this would be best.
“How accurate is a ring measure?”
It can depend often on how you use it, try to make sure you try it on three of four times at different times or a different day. Make sure you have it set so it feels like a ring and that when you push it over your knuckle it doesn’t feel to lose. Nothing is 100% accurate as every design of ring can vary, but the tool will give you a very good idea of the size and most people report it helps them.
